Meet in Ft William or Aviemore, welcome and intro to the course.A Quick chat about the the days ahead looking at weather and avalanche forecast. Discuss equipment and kit.
Hill day - Glencoe/Lochaber/Cairngorm Northern Corries.
Skills day looking at moving on snow/ice, self arrest, crampon work etc.
Hill day - Glencoe/Lochaber/Cairngorm Northern Corries
Glencoe - Ascent of Buachaille Etive Beag or Stob Dubh
Stob Coire nan Lochan or Bidean nam Bian
Lochaber - Mamores Stob Ban or Mullach nan Coirean.
Ben Nevis via abseil posts or Aonach Mor Aonach Beag.
Aviemore - Cairngorm summit or traverse of the Northern Corries.
Winter kit list
Waterproof Jacket & Trousers (prefer Gore-tex or similar)
Rucsac 30-50ltrs
Gaiters
Base layer - thermal/wicking
Mid layer - polartec 100
Top layer - polartec 200/ windstopper
Fleece trousers/salopettes
Hats x 2, balaclava x 1
Gloves - 2/3 pairs preferably fleece with 1 waterproof.
Headtorch & spare battery
Rucsac liner
Survival bag
Thermos flask
Walking poles?
Sunglasses & cream?
Boots (plastic or leather,must have rigid sole unit)
Crampons
Ice axe
Helmet
Harness (winter mountaineering course only)
