Coire Ghrunnda ,Skye Cuillin Munros

Updated: Sep 11, 2020

I spent the weekend working on the Cuillin, Isle of Skye with Michelle, Rikki & Rosie. A group of keen munroists at a variety of stages on their tick lists, from 1st round to 3rd round, very impressive!

Saturday - Not a great forecast for the day but a glimmer of hope in the afternoon from the Met Office. We planned a slightly later start and spent the first couple of hours walking into Coire Ghrunnda in the mist & drizzle with the midges following us. A brief stop in the coire to eat and take on more liquid before the pull up and onto Sgurr nan Eag, still in the mist but with the odd glimmer that the weather was changing.

From here we made our way North back towards Sgurr Dubh an Da Bheinn through some very impressive geology and very defined Gabbro. The team left their rucsacs here and we made our way firstly down and then up over a variety of scrambly steps before summitting the 2nd Munro, Sgurr Dubh Mor. Here, the clouds started to clear and gave us amazing views down into Loch Coruisk and also along the main ridge.

By this time and after a lot of discussion, a good key place, we made the decision to drop back into Coire Ghrunnda and call it a day. Although we still had enough daylight, continuing to Sgurr Alasdair could have a knock on effect to our planned next day. Good team decision and a good day 1!
